He Gave Every Star A Name, Surely He Knows Me And Cares For My Needs

Monday evening of this week I was sitting outside enjoying the cooler evening we were having here in Phoenix and doing a little star-gazing. The sky was clear and I was thinking as I enjoyed the twinkling stars of how God had placed each star with such care and attention. This thought so captured my attention that I completely overlooked the fact that God named each one of those stars. Thanks for reminding me of this Deb and Mary. :)  Wow, think about it.  There are millions upon millions of stars in the heavens and He named each and every one of them.  What does that tell us about how “BIG and POWERFUL” our God is? Psalms 147:4-5 says;
“He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord, and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.”

Even with all of our human knowledge and technology, knowing the exact number of stars is beyond our capability. With our most powerful telescopes we can see deep into space and we see a vast number of the stars, and in the distance we can see a faint blur of innumerable others.  It’s mind-boggling to think that He knows each one of the stars and is so familiar with them that He has named each one. Yes, His understanding is INFINITE. Can you begin to imagine His immense love for us!!

Here is something else to ponder; we are so very insignificant compared to God. In Isaiah 40:12a we can see just how small we are compared to God:
“Who (God) has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand”
The first part of that verse tells us He has measured the oceans in His hand. Now it would be impressive if it was just one ocean, but God measures all of the waters on the face of earth in His hand. Just one hand! That is astounding, unfathomable. Next time I have a problem, I will reflect on just how immense His hands are. I know that if He can hold all of the waters on the face of the earth in His hand, then surely He can take care of my small problems!

All the evidence points to the fact that our God is infinitely more powerful, wise and knowledgeable than even the best and brightest of mankind. Jesus tells us that the  “very number of hairs on each of our heads is numbered”  Mt 10:30. This fact is impressive, but it is only a small part of the actual depth to which God knows all things. I have no doubt in my mind, that God has a constant knowledge of every atomic particle  out there in the universe. God is  INFINITE in His knowledge. He knows absolutely all that there is to know!

Knowing God’s nature has profound implications for us.  Think about it, He has placed each and every star carefully into their place in the heavens. He knows them so well He has given each of them a name. Yes, He knows US personally. He knows us through and though. He knows and cares about what is happening in our lives. Wherever we go, God is there. Whatever we do, God sees it. God has set our lives in place. He has charted a course for us. We can rest assured that it is a good course and that He will be with us every step of the way; if we can but trust Him.

We can have HOPE, that joyful, confident expectation, that He hears us when we call out to Him. Absolutely nothing escapes His careful notice. We can rest securely in the knowledge that He is watching over us at every moment, even when we sleep. He is very concerned about His children and loves them all dearly. Let us Humble ourselves before Him.

 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Abba Father You placed the stars in the heavens and You know each one by name. How much more do You know and care for each of Your children. I thank for your love and care for me. I  humble myself under Your mighty hand. I bow before You in humble adoration and praise for You alone are worthy. Amen
